American Democracy

In this year 2026 as America stands deeply divided, what many Democrats and Republicans can agree on is: (1) that that they hate and fear each other; and (2) something is terribly wrong with our politics. The country needs to have a serious discussion about what a healthy democracy looks like. Leaders who are more committed to promoting democracy than self-interest need to emerge. In the past when American democracy has worked best is when it stood firmly upon the three-legged stool of liberty, equality, and fraternity. We need leaders who will strongly promote all three of these values. Politicians cannot be leaders. For politicians, success is achieved by dividing Americans--flighting rather that talking intelligently and respectfully, and unresolved conflict rather than thoughtful compromise. Republicans promote liberty. Democrats promote equality. Politicians on both sides promote fear and hatred of each other. The well of democracy is poisoned. America will not be saved by politicians. Journalists? They have helped in the past. But American society has evolved. We need a 21st century solution.

My appeal is to all media influencers—the newly emerged powers of this 21st century. Promoting respect and compromise may not increase your following, but you could consider it to be your patriotic duty. “With great power comes great responsibility.” (Spider-man: 21st century wisdom) Our politicians cannot be entrusted with guiding the nation; they must be guided by the nation.

Reform income tax.

Income tax needs reform that helps close the gap in income levels. We really don't need billionaires. Tax cuts are popular, but who do they really benefits?
